EMIRATES

Emirates wins the award for the best airline company in the world at the World Airline Awards 2016 – Skytrax. The company, based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, has won a recognition for the best on-board entertainment in the world (for the 12th consecutive year) and the award of best company in the Middle East. It is the fourth time that Emirates has won the main award since the awards were introduced 15 years ago. The Emirates company has in fact obtained the recognition of the best company in the world in 2001, in 2002 and in 2013. Overall, since 2001 Emirates has won 20 Skytrax World Airline awards.
Its flights depart from the most important Italian airports: Rome, Milan, Venice and Bologna.

Positive sides:
From Milan and Rome, you can fly with the Airbus A380, the largest passenger plane in the world.
It is punctual and with an excellent on-board service.
The entertainment on board is varied and most of the films are in Italian.
Dubai Airport is majestic and futuristic and worth visiting.

Negative sides:
If you depart from Bologna or Venice, on the way back you have to make a long stopover in Dubai, at night, of about 7 hours.

QATAR AIRWAYS

Awarded in 2016 for the best business class in the world and then chosen by Skytrax as the second best company in the world after Emirates, with departures from Milan, Bologna, Venice, Pisa and Rome.

At Le Bourget’s Paris Air Show for the delivery of the Skytrax 2017 awards, it triumphed as the best company in the world, the fourth victory in its history. The carrier, based in Doha, has also won the award for Best Global Business Class, Best First Class Lounge and Best Middle Eastern Company. It has also won as Best Company in Asia, Best Business Class seat and Best Premium Economy catering.

Positive sides:
It is punctual and with an excellent on-board service.
Many films in Italian present on board.
Tickets can often be changed and refunded with small penalties.
The Doha airport is very modern and very nice to visit.

Negative sides:
Flights, at discounted prices to the Maldives, often have quite long stopovers.

ETIHAD AIRWAYS

In 2015, the Abu Dhabi company was awarded with the “World Airline Leader” award for the seventh consecutive year during the Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2015 of the World Travel Awards (WTA). In 2016, it was elected by Skytrax as the sixth best company in the world and flies to the Maldives from Italy, making a stopover in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. It is also the airline with the most luxurious First Class ever, the Diamond First Class.

Positive sides:
New planes with excellent on-board service.
Abu Dhabi Airport is modern and very dynamic.
Onboard entertainment is well studied and films are also available in Italian.
The staff speaks several languages.

Negative sides:
The flight from Venice to Malé has a long stopover in Abu Dhabi.

TURKISH AIRLINES

It was elected for the fifth year in a row as “Best Company of Europe” and “Best Company of Southern Europe” at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2015</strong, reconfirming it the queen of the skies of the Old Continent. It has distinguished itself not only for the excellence of on-board service, but also for that offered on the ground. The “Turkish Airlines Lounge Istanbul”, in fact, obtained in 2015 the award for “Best Business Class Lounge” in the world after being recently renovated and expanded to ensure maximum comfort and enjoyment for its guests.
Flights depart from Milan, Turin, Venice, Bologna, Pisa, Rome, Naples, Bari and stops in Istanbul (Ataturk airport).

Positive sides:
After about 2 hours flight to Istanbul and a short stop at the airport, you will have a direct flight to Male.
It often has excellent offers to fly to the Maldives, with very advantageous prices.
It has a good on-board entertainment system.

Negative sides:
Economy class seats are not among the most spacious.
The Istanbul airport is not particularly interesting from the point of view of entertainment for those who have to stop for a few hours.

ALITALIA

Leaving aside the administrative and management problems of the company, which since the beginning of May is in controlled administration, Alitalia boasts a high-altitude kitchen among the best in the world, especially for the premium class. To define the quality of food on board of Alitalia there are the awards received for 7 years in a row by readers of the North American magazine Global Traveler, which in 2010 crowned it Best Airline Cuisine.
Its flights depart Rome and Milan with some very interesting direct flights to Malé.

Positive sides:
Direct non-stop flight starting in autumn 2017.
On board entertainment in Italian.

Negative sides:
Company crisis.
Higher ticket costs, especially for non-stop routes.
